Stafford will mark Baby Loss Awareness Week this October with a special ribbon display in Market Square and a remembrance service at St Mary’s Church.
The events, taking place between 9 and 15 October, will give bereaved parents and families an opportunity to remember babies who have died, while raising awareness of the different types of baby loss.
The local organiser says this will be the first time an event of this kind has taken place in Stafford as part of the international awareness campaign.
Pink and blue ribbons in Market Square
A ribbon display will be created on the railings in Stafford’s Market Square from Friday 9 October until Thursday 15 October, with support from Stafford Borough Council and The Stafford Building Society.
Bereaved parents and families will be able to tie ribbons to the railings in memory of their babies, with a specially made postbox also available for people wishing to leave a personal message.
Shire Hall will also be illuminated in pink and blue, the colours associated with Baby Loss Awareness Week, to show support for families affected by baby loss.
The display aims to provide a visible place of remembrance in the town centre while helping to raise awareness of an experience that can often be difficult for families to talk about.

Wave of Light service at St Mary’s Church
The week will conclude with a Wave of Light remembrance service at St Mary’s Church in Stafford on Thursday 15 October.
Organised in association with Stafford Churches and A Child of Mine, the service will begin at 6.30pm and will provide an opportunity for families and members of the community to come together to remember babies who have died.
The Wave of Light forms part of the wider Baby Loss Awareness Week campaign, bringing people together in remembrance of babies who have died during pregnancy, at birth or in infancy.
