A drink driver from Stafford who caused a fatal collision that killed a taxi driver and seriously injured a passenger has been jailed for nearly a decade.
Joshua Stack, aged 25, got behind the wheel of his Vauxhall Corsa in January 2024 after drinking at a local sports venue.
Staffordshire Police confirmed that Stack’s vehicle collided with a taxi, resulting in the death of 50-year-old Sajid Ali from Walsall. A passenger travelling in the back seat of the taxi, a man in his 20s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. He has since been discharged and continues to recover.
Guilty plea ahead of trial
Following the collision, Stack was also taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries. A blood sample subsequently proved he was over the legal drink-drive limit at the time of the crash.
Stack pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving just days before a trial was due to begin. He was sentenced on Monday 2 November 2026.
Following the sentencing, Staffordshire Police said: “Stack’s actions that day has taken away someone from their family forever and caused significant emotional and physical distress to another.
”I’m pleased that we have been able to build all of the evidence needed to make sure he is brought to justice.”
