A Stafford man has been jailed for 11 years and nine months after setting a woman on fire inside a block of flats.

Reece Brivitt, 32, of Stafford, admitted wounding with intent and arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered before being sentenced at Stafford Crown Court.

Woman suffered serious burns

Police were called to a block of flats on Milton Grove in Stafford on Wednesday 22 October 2025 following reports of a fire.

Staffordshire Police said Brivitt had poured vodka and petrol over a woman before setting her on fire. The victim suffered serious burns to her chest and legs and was taken to hospital. She has since been discharged, although police said she was left with life-changing injuries.

Firefighters from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident and extinguished the fire. Police said their quick response also helped prevent further injuries to other people who were inside the flats at the time.

As part of the sentence, Brivitt was also given an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.

Detective Constable Jessica Scott, from CID South, said the attack had threatened both the victim and other people living in the flats, and said she hoped the conviction would provide some closure for the woman.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service also said crews had worked quickly to reduce the danger to residents and bring the fire under control.
