Despite the response, the ambulance service confirmed that a woman was sadly pronounced deceased.
Major disruption across rail network
The incident forced the closure of all lines between Stafford, Stoke-on-Trent, and Crewe while emergency services worked at the scene.
National Rail confirmed that Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, and London Northwestern Railway services were severely affected, with trains either cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, or diverted.
Major disruption is expected to continue until 3:00pm this afternoon.
