A 48-year-old man from Cannock has been jailed for more than 10 years after admitting raping and controlling a woman in Stafford.
Kamljit Sahota, who has previously been involved in several businesses in Stafford, including a bathroom supply shop on Marston Road, was sentenced to 10 years and two months in prison at Stafford Crown Court on Friday 11 September.
He admitted two counts of rape, engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour, and making threats to destroy or damage property.
Offences took place over several months
Staffordshire Police said the offences happened between July and October 2025.
Sahota initially denied the allegations but changed his plea after being presented with evidence provided by the survivor.
Alongside his prison sentence, he was ordered to comply with police notification requirements indefinitely following his release and was made subject to an ongoing restraining order.
He was also ordered to pay a £228 surcharge.
Previous conviction for drug supply offences
Sahota had previously appeared before Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court in connection with a separate drug supply investigation.
According to an earlier report by The Sentinel, he was a passenger in an Audi stopped by police on the A500 following suspicious activity at a petrol station in Longport on 22 January 2021.
Officers recovered £9,170 from Sahota and found 158.39 grams of cannabis in the vehicle, with an estimated street value of up to £1,580.
Sahota pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply a Class B drug, being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug and possession of criminal property.
He was handed an eight-month prison sentence suspended for two years, alongside 250 hours of unpaid work and a three-month curfew.

Police praise survivor for coming forward
Detective Constable Andrea Chidgey, from Staffordshire Police’s rape and serious sexual offences team, said Sahota had intimidated and controlled different aspects of the survivor’s life.
She praised the woman for coming forward and trusting officers with her account of what she had experienced.
The detective said she hoped the survivor could continue her recovery and that the case demonstrated the force’s commitment to supporting people affected by abuse and bringing offenders to justice.
