A man has been arrested after police officers and a police helicopter tracked a vehicle that fled from a car meet on the A34.

Staffordshire Police officers were alerted to a gathering at Meaford, near Stone, at around 8:30pm on Sunday 4 October. More than 50 vehicles had congregated at the location, with multiple cars dispersing as soon as patrol cars arrived.

Second gathering on the A34

A short time later, officers received further reports that several vehicles had regrouped at another location on the A34 closer to Stafford.

When patrols arrived at the second gathering, one vehicle failed to stop for officers at the scene.

With assistance from the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter, the vehicle was tracked from above and brought to a safe stop.

A man was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Warning over speed and illegal racing

Following the incident, police warned that unauthorised vehicle gatherings, illegal street racing, and excessive speed create severe hazards for the public.

A spokesperson for Stafford Borough Police said: “Illegal racing and excessive speed put not only those involved at risk, but also other motorists and other members of the public.”

Officers have urged residents to report similar incidents, advising members of the public to call 999 if there is an immediate risk to life or an active danger to road users.
