Chase Road has been temporarily closed after a disposable barbecue started a large wildfire on Cannock Chase.
The road is closed between the Camp Road turning and Brocton Nursery while work continues to reduce the risk of remaining hotspots reigniting.
Staffordshire County Council said the closure will remain in place until at least Monday 3 August. Drivers are being asked to use alternative routes over the weekend.
Fire damaged protected habitat
Firefighters from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Fire Service were called to the blaze in Sherbrook Valley.
The fire damaged an area of heath and moorland within a protected Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation.
Wildlife including adders and toads were killed, while valuable habitat was also lost.
The county council confirmed that the fire was started by a disposable barbecue.
Disposable barbecues banned on Cannock Chase
Disposable barbecues are banned on Cannock Chase because of the risk they pose during dry weather.
The county council is reminding visitors not to use barbecues or open flames on Cannock Chase or in country parks.
People are also being asked to take litter home or use the bins provided and to take extra care with glass, which can start fires in hot conditions.
The road closure will be reviewed, with further updates expected when Chase Road can safely reopen.
